About Ian Campbell-BriggsHe has exhibited in London, Bristol, Leicester, South Wales, Italy and France.
In his work he uses a number of materials, generally the starting point is clay, which is then cast into resin and occasionally bronze. His use of welded steel is becoming more prevalent, both with other materials and in its own right.
The work sometimes combines the figure with the abstract. The purely abstract explores enclosing space through planar construction or taking a line for a walk through space. All the sculptures are thematic investigating topics such as the mandorla, the passage through liminal spaces and the systematisation of knowledge.
In 2010 he was elected Associate of the Royal British Society of Sculptors MRBS.

Artist Statement of Ian Campbell-BriggsAs a sculptor working in series, my work is thematic, investigated through metaphor, combining the figure with the abstract. Often the starting point for the work is the figure by way of analytical drawing in clay, which then inspires the complimentary formalised components.
The purely abstract work although dispensing with the figure is formally linked with the above described sculptures. Generally these are architectonic forms of welded steel. Linear in construction, and either taking a line for a walk through space or enclosing a space using planar construction.
